51st state?

Yet again, Trump is making “51st state” comments and repeating the utterly delusional belief that Canadians might actually want it.

He’s coming across like a creepy sex predator who simply can’t understand “NO” when he hears it.

Joined-up thinking?

Trump has announced that he wants foreign engineering companies to come to the States, train up local people, and then leave. The goal is to build up an expert local workforce.

Laudable ideas. Pity he keeps shooting himself in the foot with his own cruel and asinine policies.

Why would an international company want to set up shop in the first place, when he’s tariffed the heck out of any supplies they might need, making their end products unprofitable to the rest of the world? Latest example – CLAAS, a high-tech combine manufacturer, is moving production of Canada-bound vehicles to Europe because of tariffs, leaving just the manufacture of vehicles bound for the domestic market.

Why would foreign engineering experts want to travel to the US and risk random roundup by ICE and detention without trial? Witness the raid on Hyundai, arresting the very people Trump wants to encourage.

But this whole effort depends on an educated domestic workforce to train – well-educated in science and engineering and innovative thinking. You know ... fact-based disciplines. In a time when facts are ignored, education as a whole is under attack, science is disparaged, and any thinking beyond Trumpian dogma is criminalized.

So now, media outlets aren’t allowed to report the news, they have to sign an oath of fealty to Trump and publish only officially-sanctioned propaganda.

I despair as I watch our once-great neighbours slide ever deeper into dictatorship, and the Trump regime isn’t even being subtle about it any more. With state control of media, and officials rewriting history, 1984 has arrived. Just four decades later than expected.

All to protect one pathetic man-baby’s fragile ego.

Free speech?

Trump and his minions have often scolded Britain over freedom of speech, pointing to America's wonderful First Amendment as proof that they (apparently) are the only county to have it.

Despite that First Amendment, Trump is now claiming that any broadcast critical of him is “illegal”. Good job he doesn’t live in Britain, where politicians and leaders are routinely skewed with cutting satire. Anyone remember Spitting Image a few decades ago and their relentless assaults on Margaret Thatcher (amongst others)? Poor little snowflake Trump would have melted after the first episode.

I’m so happy to see Spitting Image is still going strong and just fearlessly lampooned Trump and King Charles, Netenyahu, and Keir Starmer in one episode, with no fear of being cancelled.

Yep. That would be because they’re smart.

Leadership

If ever there was a time for the president to step up and calm down the simmering violence and hate plaguing the USA, it’s right now.

He has it in his grasp to call people to heal the divisions and dial down the temperature. In other words ... show leadership!

To Trump, and all the hysterical right-wing pundits automatically blaming the “radical left” for Charlie Kirk’s shooting ...

(Setting aside the fact that the shooter came from a conservative, deeply religious family)

... look to your own behavior since 2015: insults, memes, tweets, lies, false blaming, name-calling, calls to violence, targeted retribution, pardoning violent criminals ...

All norms of decent behavior have been upended by Trump. This is the country you’ve become.

Just remind me, this is the guy who wants people to donate money and pray for him to get into Heaven?

After posting about Trump’s whining yesterday, I belatedly realized why he’s having a hissy fit at three national leaders getting together.

Xi, Putin, and Kim, three dictators that he so admires, are having a party ... and he wasn’t invited!

Words matter

Trump knows this. Not on any intellectual level, but on an animal reptilian-brain instinctive basis. This is why his attacks on anyone not 100% devoted to him tend to hit home on a gut level with no appeal to higher mental reasoning.

Apparently, the leaders of China, Russia, and North Korea are “conspiring” against the US.

No, Donald. “Conspiring” implies planning something unlawful. These are sovereign nations on a legal par with the US talking amongst themselves. They may be forming an alliance against the US but that is not a conspiracy. It’s within their right, and not especially surprising given the hostility the US is showing to pretty much everyone else in the world.
